INSTRUMENTAL JAZZ

Featuring the talents of our collaborator Jerry Gonzalez, the ONJAZZ band and Miss Graves (Natalia Farrán's alter ego), amongst others. Clarissa and Natalia Farrán wrote the songs for the Miss Graves project, and Ramón plays drums on the album.
Deeply saddened here at Farran Music by the news of our friend Jerry's recent passing. He leaves a spectacular legacy and we count ourselves lucky to have collaborated with him on several occasions – on the album Jaleos and on various live performances that were very special and important contributions. He was a true musician, with his very own voice, and he will be missed.
FILM & TV SOUNDTRACKS

Some examples of soundtracks we've written, arranged and produced for film, TV and theatre in recent years - they include fragments of "Condemor, el pecador de la pradera", "Tres Ventanas", "Contra el viento" and the popular cartoon "D'Artacan y los tres mosqueperros" (Ramón adapted the Spanish version of "Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds"). Also in this section are samples of Nick Philphin's recent work - ethereal and soulful guitar sounds.
LATIN

Fragments of the "Tabaco" album by Ramón Farrán - soon to be re-released - and Jerry Gonzalez's music, amongst others, sung in Portuguese and Spanish.

NEW AGE & WORLD MUSIC

Fragments of the Mantra de Ahímsa album, dedicated by Ramón Farrán to the Dalai Lama; who blessed Ramón and the album during a ceremony in Madrid; fragments of the double album Jaleos, performed by the ONJAZZ (Spanish National Jazz Orchestra) and some demos by one of our resident composers, Hamish MacDonald.

SYMPHONIC JAZZ

Fragments of the first album by the ONJAZZ (Spanish National Jazz Orchestra), Jaleos (Sony Classical Legacy Recordings, 2009).
It's a unique blend of Spanish folk, Spanish classical music and jazz. Ramón Farrán is one of the founders of the Spanish symphonic Jazz genre, and has even created a new "palo Flamenco" (a rhythm pattern), the "bulería rota" - a "broken bulería" (the bulería is usually a 12/8 rhythm pattern, and Ramón writes an entire piece in 11/8).

SPANISH 1960s/70s POP

Some of our hits from the 1960s and '70s, including the number 1 Fiesta, by Los Valldemossa, and "Amigos, Amigos" sung by popular Spanish singer Salomé, who nearly performed it at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1969, representing Spain (it reached number 2 in the national finals). Here you'll also find rarities such as Ambar Connection's Hang Glider (Marta Farrán sings backing vocals on this, and it was Natalia's first recording, aged six); 60s garage pop band Ramon 5 (Ramón's only pop band as a drummer); Furia, soul diva Gwen Perry and Sweet & Sour.

POP & DANCE DEMOS

Recreating the 1970s, 80s and 90s, we showcase some demos by our collaborator, programmer, composer and producer Hamish MacDonald in this section.

From hip-hop to trance-house, via dub, dance, New Romantics, acid house, rock, punk rock, to rock and roll, it's all here!

FLAMENCO-POP

Includes the international hit Lailolá (which is still being covered around the world in styles ranging from disco to heavy rock to "oom-pah" bands). This song was first recorded by José Reyes, father of the Gypsy Kings. Ramón Farrán is one of the originators of the rumba catalana style, a blend of flamenco, rumba and pop which exploded in Barcelona in the 1970s and later gave rise to the Gypsy Kings phenomenon. The songs by Jerez might also sound familiar, and Pilar Machi's recent compositions are also featured in this section.

CONTEMPORARY CLASSICAL MUSIC
Our Contemporary Classical Music Department offers a series of pieces of different musical roots from around the globe - Indian, Castilian, Mediterranean, Flamenco/Andalusí, American, African, etc. In this section you can hear fragments of two pieces generated by virtual instruments by the Sibelius score-writing program, The Dancing Harlequin from Córdoba and Clarissa, a piano concert composed by Ramón Farrán for his youngest daughter. Please contact us for more information about the scores or audios.
PICASSO'S FRIEND
Ramón's new project about the extraordinary friendship between Pablo Picasso and his barber, Eugenio Arias. Written for violin, baritone sax (doubling up with soprano sax and flute), Spanish classical/flamenco guitar, drums/symphonic percussion, double bass, three pianos and three voices: Pablo Picasso, Eugenio Arias and Pablo's last wife, Jacqueline Roque. Here are a few fragments.
